Birmingham confirmed host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Further great news for Birmingham has been confirmed this week with the official announcement that Birmingham will indeed host to the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Very exciting news, and as Andy Street took to Twitter to congratulate, it is a fantastic “Christmas present”, and something for the city and region as a whole to embrace and enjoy. Whilst the cost of hosting is expected to be the most expensive since the Olympics in London in 2012-in the region of £750m, the wider benefits such as tourism and jobs created in the city is sure to continue the buzz around the city, continuing the resurgence of Birmingham over the last couple of years.

Culture secretary Karen Bradley said Birmingham will put on a “brilliant Games that will showcase the best of Britain to the world and make the entire country proud” and followed praise from Theresa May.

The infrastructure, with new stadiums and central arenas designed specifically for the event, will be in place complimenting what will be the new Paradise Forum area and ongoing redevelopment within the city centre including the vast array of residential development that is improving the central skyline.

The effect this news will have in the local property market will remain to be seen, but it cant be a bad thing to be hosting, as other British cities of Manchester and Glasgow found in welcoming competitors and visitors from all over the world to our shores and city. Its another positive sign of the role Birmingham plays as the country’s second city.
