When you start looking for property you generally tend to have a budget in mind, a ceiling price you just can’t go over, no matter how much you might love a place. But what if money was no object, or your ceiling price was just really, really high? Let’s go for a wander along six of Birmingham’s most expensive streets, and dream about what could be possible.
Oakham Road, Harborne.
Starting us off at number six is Oakham Road, where the average property valuation is £955,000, hardly small change. The most recent sold price on this street was £961,000, back in 2020 and, considering our burgeoning real estate market, we feel this would now top the £1 million mark. With a mix of mainly detached houses, semi-detached homes and flats, as well as proximity to playing fields and parks, this is a popular place to live for both families and professionals.
Westfield Road, Harborne
Number five is Westfield Road, Harborne, where the average sale price over the past year was £1,079,750. A tree-lined road filled with large detached mainly Victorian homes, this is part of the 1,500 acre Calthorpe Farm, which started as the manor of Edgbaston Hall and contains 1/3 of all the listed buildings in Birmingham. There are plenty of green spaces nearby, including Chad Brook and Edgbaston Lake Park, making it a popular spot for those who like their city life with a touch of country.
Hamilton Avenue, Harborne
Number four brings us to Hamilton Avenue, Harborne, where the average house price is £1,266,000. The majority of homes on this street are detached, and many are owned outright, hinting at the affluence of the area. It’s also close to several primary and secondary schools and Warley Woods, and Birmingham University train station is less than two miles away.
Carpenter Road, Edgbaston
Our number three street is Carpenter Road, Edgbaston. This street contains a mixed range of properties, but is propelled into our top six by being home to the most expensive property sold in Birmingham to date, at an eye-watering £4,725,000. A Georgian style home with eight bedrooms, a large garden and an indoor swimming pool, it’s characteristic of the high-end properties on the street, many of which sell for close to or over the £1million mark. Carpenter Road is also close to the Botanical Gardens and Edgbaston Cricket Ground, while the City Centre is only ten minutes or so drive away.
Farquhar Road, Edgbaston
Number two on the list is Farquhar Road, which, according to Zoopla, recorded an average sold price for properties on this road in the past 12 months of £1,599,000. One of Birmingham’s most prestigious addresses, Farquhar Road is close to the University of Birmingham, Birmingham Botanical Gardens and several parks, including Edgbaston Pool. Several properties on the street even have their own private parks! King Edward School and King Edward VI Girls High School are also close by, as is the BMI Edgbaston Hospital, and a host of local amenities.
Woodbourne Road, Harbourne
Finally we reach number one on our list. Woodbourne Road, Harbourne, on the border with Edgbaston, is Birmingham’s most expensive street, with the average property value estimated at £1.75 million. A mix of large detached Victorian and Edwardian properties, interspersed with more modern homes, most are set back from the road in large lots with high hedges and electric gates, adding to their exclusivity. Its proximity to Harborne High street, with its mix of independent traders, high street names and excellent restaurants, also adds to its cachet as Birmingham’s most exclusive address, as does the fact it’s only two and half miles from Birmingham city centre.
Whether you’ve just won the lottery, or simply have very deep pockets, these six streets hold some of the best property Birmingham has to offer. To enquire about any of these areas, or to find your own dream property, contact us. Let’s see what’s possible.
